History of Duyet Thi Duong
In 1826, Minh Mang Emperor built Duyet Thi Duong Theater. It locates in Hue Forbidden City. According to history, it used to be a royal theater where kings and lords enjoyed Vietnam traditional art forms. Especially, there were ancient Tuong and art performances to welcome foreign guests.
Under the reign of Khai Dinh Emperor, on the occasion of the 40th birthday, he had repaired Duyet Thi Duong. Thus, he had expanded audiences and added a function hall to make the theater more spacious.
Having the same fate with many monuments in Hue Citadel during the Tet Offensive, the original Duyet Thi Duong has lost, but its artistic replica nowadays is a must visit Hue Attraction.

Although being restoration, its rebuilt construction is still worth a visit of yours in Hue Imperial City. When walking to this unique theater in Hue Imperial City, you will enter an elaborate three-gate entrance, but only the main gate is opened.
Keep going inside that is the front yard with a copper peak in the center and two dragons in both two sides.
Entering the theater you can see that it is sharply decorated in the Eastern style. It is a large rectangular-shaped building with curved eaves, similar to those of Thai Hoa Palace and many Hue Royal tombs architectures.
Furthermore, it was made from lacquered ironwood decorated with dragons playing in clouds. On each column hung a painting of Hue scenery in a golden frame, carved with dragon designs.
The main stage in the middle of the theater, the best place was reserved for the King is in the second floor. In front of the main stage, in two side there are two parallel sentences in Chinese script of Minh Mang Emperor.
