Hue city is well-known for many landscapes from ancient times such as Hue Citadel, Huong River, Khai Dinh tomb, Vong Canh hill and so on. Besides, there is a famous and special site known to the world – Thuy Tien Lake – A Thrilling Jurrasic Park In Hue City.
From its official grand construction in 2004
Thuy Tien Lake is located about 10 km southwest of Hue city on the hill of Thien An. It had become an ideal destination for visitors to Hue with its green pine forest and serene lakes.
To promote tourism as well as meet the needs of tourists, Thua Thien Hue People’s Committee has decided to invest in building a recreational area – Thuy Tien Lake – having an area of 49.9 hectares with many monumental items such as aquatic tourism complex, rich ecosystems from colorful fishes to rare reptiles, water music stage with capacity of 2,500 seats, the 20 high-end bedrooms are nestled on the slopes.
Its construction started in early 2000. By June 2004, many items were completed and put into operation, and this place was officially opened to guests. For many school boys and girls, it was a memorable camping site that became part of their fun teenager’s period in Hue.
However, due to inefficient operation and degraded park, this place was closed for research and development of new projects by the end of 2011.
To its creepy abandoned look nowadays
If you have ever heard of Vietnam’s most famous deserted park, this is it! About a year ago, the famous American newspaper The Huffington Post had an article titled “Abandoned Water Park in Vietnam, not for the faint heart” reflects its devastation and ghost-haunted rumors.
The scenery is peaceful, wild and a bit scary with the run-down look on every building in the park.
The area around Thuy Tien Lake has dozens of magnificent sculptures. Nevertheless, because there are no preservers, many artworks have been deformed.
Even the gate at the entrance was rusted and damaged.
After more than a decade, trees have covered slides and swimming pools, and it has become the home of wildlife. The water slides starting from the pedestal ruined and ended up in the pool, where once there were crocodiles. The park is spread out around a small lake, which is great for exploring by bike. Routes and quays are deserted. The model of the park was damaged and full of broken glass, and dust.
Nonetheless, a thrilling spot for adventure seekers!
Despite its run-down situation, most young travelers coming to Hue found it an extremely thrilling experience. Many of them said, “it is like walking in the Jurassic Park (a famous American fiction movie made in 1993) with lots of surprising explorations”.
Due to a huge amount of adventurers flocking into this wild park, owner group decided to restrict visitors. However, if you have a good negotiation skill ( or give the guards a small sum of money, like 50,000 VND or $2.5 dollars for a group), you can still roam around and amaze how sometimes Mother Nature can do a better job in creating a masterpiece than human’s effort.
The area leading to the aqueduct is now all rusted and ruined, and the grass grows rank.
View from the dragon head. Thuy Tien Lake is one of the romantic landscapes with fresh air, which is suitable for relaxation.
Previously, there were crocodiles living in this area for 10 years.

The magnificent 2,500-seat auditorium is filled with rows of fungus with stains.
There are leaves and palm trees covering the slides, and the pool is full of murky algae.
In short, the ruin of Thuy Tien Lake is attractive to young foreigners loving to explore. In addition, Thuy Tien Lake becomes a new destination on the social travel network.
